Finally, I made it!

18 February 2005

I've been promising this newsletter for MONTHS but never quite got it happening because I've had too much work on. Well, today is the day, my friends, when I fell back on my trusty old saying, "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing badly" (in other words - "if you wait until it's perfect, you'll never do it!).

So anyway, welcome. I'll try to keep the newsletters interesting and not too frequent (although judging by my track record so far, that shouldn't be a problem!). Of course I welcome your input. If you'd like to hear from me more / less often, have a suggestion, or just want to tell me how terrible it is, please get in touch. My e-mail is steven@stevenpam.com.au.

Well let's start with the pretty pictures. If you were sending me a newsletter, that's what I'd want to see first.

Cars & Girls

Wow. It's just all glamour in my job, isn't it.

Here's a pretty picture of a Saab 9-3 convertible I took last week. S.P. Photography was recently awarded the contract to do photography for several manufacturers' used car websites and point of sale materials.

As you can imagine, that's enough work to keep a photographer pretty busy, so the business is expanding accordingly with a new employee (stay tuned for details and a mug shot!).

Yesterday I shot my fourth cover for Australian Anthill Magazine.

Since the magazine is still many weeks away, I can't give to much away, except that it will feature the lovely Julie (looking nothing like this)!

Five in five can help

One in five Australians is affected by mental illness. Five in five can help.

Celsius design contacted me last year and asked me to do the photography for the Mental Illness Fellowship of Victoria annual report. The shoot was over a day and a half and involved going to Shepparton and Seymour to photograph some of the programs MI Fellowship run out there, as well as pictures of their offices and one of their op shops in Melbourne. It was a huge and challenging day and a half but also incredibly rewarding.

Deep and Meaningful

Yes, I did my first underwater shoot last year. OK, so I only went down about TWO FEET, but you've got to start somewhere! The shoot was for Frankston's Jubilee Park swimming centre. Although the brief didn't call for an underwater shot, I like to add that little bit extra whenever I can, so I got myself a flexible underwater housing for my camera. Was I nervous submerging my digital SLR - my very lifeblood - in the pool?

That's it for now, I'd better save some stuff for next time. Besides, it's gonna be the weekend in a few minutes. Enjoy!

Till next time,

Steven Pam
