DFB Review - the short version!

You may recall that in a previous issue I mentioned the Daylesford Foto Biennale. Well, I finally managed to drag myself along and I'm glad I did.

Of the thirty-odd exhibitions, I guess I managed to see around 15. Particularly memorable were the huge and moving war-zone photographs of Tim Page, and by contrast the more easily enjoyed portraits of artists by Robyn Rosenfeldt.

Page's exhibition, entitled "Big Moments" was appropriately (or should that be incongruously?) exhibited at the Uniting Church. While I was there, I felt a shiver down my spine, although that may have been because the inside of the church was so cold I could see my own breath!

The photographs were mostly shot for Time-Life and United Press International, and are from the Vietnam War and Six Day War. Tim's commitment to getting himself where the action is has seen him injured several times in action.

Robyn Rosenfeldt's "Young Artists In Residence" exhibition was an opportunity to meet a selection of Melbourne artists and musicians in their studios or homes. Robyn's style of portraiture of people in their environment really resonates with me - generally I much prefer it to the detached and artificial feel that studio photographs often communicate.
